Below you will find referrals to child care services, one of the most needed resources.  Each county has a central referral agency that is able to guide you to the appropriate agency for your needs.  For CalWORKS recipients, child care may also be arranged through your worker.

Children’s Council of San Francisco:

Provides free resource and referral listings to parents seeking child care and child care subsidy assistance. This is available to low income families in training or in the workforce.

San Francisco Centralized Eligibility List (SFCEL):

The San Francisco Centralized Eligibility List (SFCEL) helps income-eligible families with children under 13 years find child care subsidy programs that cover part or all of their child care costs. With SFCEL, families can apply for high quality child care and development programs all over San Francisco through a single application and improve their chances of receiving financial assistance with child care. Families can download the SFCEL application online in English, Spanish or Chinese. For more information, contact Children’s Council of San Francisco or Wu Yee Children’s Services.


Compass Community Services – Tenderloin Childcare Center (TLC):

Child care for low income families in the Tenderloin.  Full-time infant through preschool program, ages three months – five years. Two nutritional meals served a day. Five spaces reserved for homeless children, subsidies available and sliding scale fees.

Serves preschoolers ages one and a half to five years Monday through Friday 9 A.M. – 12 P.M.  Offers an after school program for children s 6 – 17 years of age Monday through Friday 1:30 P.M. – 6 P.M.  No fees.

Holy Family Day Home:

Offers preschool and kindergarten for children ages two to six years of age.  Serves 100 children, reserving 24 spaces for homeless children. The infant program serves nine infants ages three to eighteen months and sixteen toddlers ages eighteen to thirty months.  Breakfast, lunch, and healthy snacks are served.

TALK Line Family Support Center:

The TALK Line Family Support Center works to promote healthy families through a variety of programs, including a 24-hour crisis line, parent and child counseling, parent drop-in center, children's playroom, job assistance, and other family support services.
