Below you will find resources related to legal aid and advocacy. Many of the legal aid agencies listed provide free or sliding scale fees for their services.

Provides free legal help to people on the street, in shelters, in residential hotels who do not have telephones in their rooms, or in transitional housing programs without supportive social services.

Provides referrals to attorneys for all types of legal problems. Staff will schedule an office appointment (consultation) with an appropriate attorney. Must meet income requirements for free or reduced services.

Provides legal assistance to low-income San Francisco residents. Assists with public benefits including CalWorks, SSI, County Adult Assistance Programs, food stamps, and with family law and domestic violence issues. Assists with eviction defense and landlord and tenant relations.

The Center is a community-based, non-profit multi-service agency which assists deaf and hard-of-hearing people in the ten-county San Francisco Bay Area to live more independently and productively. Its primary goal is to serve the deaf population — directly, through client services, and indirectly, through community education and advocacy.

Provides assistance completing legal forms for low-income tenants faced with eviction, including pro per (do it yourself) answers, motions and stay-of-eviction requests. They have a sliding scale fee, and no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Offers a variety of free direct services to help low-income individuals with employment-related legal problems. Services available for individual unemployed or facing immediate unemployment. Individuals who are currently employed must meet income guidelines.

From the beginning, we have dedicated ourselves to providing comprehensive, one-on-one benefits counseling and advocacy. In 2003, we expanded our mission to include representing people living with mental health issues who are referred by targeted Department of Public Health sites.
