Family Shelters and Emergency Services
Below you will find resources and information to best access the emergency shelter system for families in the Bay Area.  All organizations are listed by county in alphabetical order.

Hamilton Family Emergency Center:

Hamilton Family Emergency Shelter offers beds for families on a one night basis as well as up to 60 days. Placement depends on availability and is accessed only by calling the hotline at 11:00 A.M. Monday through Friday. Families receiving a bed must attend a 2:00 P.M. orientation to the program. Limited items are permitted.
Services available to families include direct access to Housing Specialists and an Employment and Income Specialist, Children’s Program, Case Management, meals, on-site Tom Waddell Clinic and individual and family counseling.



Bethel AME Church:

No referral is needed to stay at this winter emergency shelter.  Go to the church, at Golden Gate and Laguna, after 6:00 P.M. to reserve a bed. The church has a capacity of 50 beds for families.  Open between December 1st and March 3st of each year.


Compass Community Services-Connecting Point:

Connecting Point is a centralized telephone intake for four family shelters in the city: Compass Family Center, Raphael House, St. Joseph Shelter and Hamilton Family Center. Also provides intake for Compass Community Services.  Call for an intake appointment (M-F: 9 A.M. to 5 P.M.)  Collect calls accepted. After office hours and weekends, call Hamilton Family Center 415-292-9930. Crisis counseling and resource information for homeless individuals and linkage to eviction prevention services are also available by phone.
